Thrice Cento

below is a poem i wrote a while back in my college days. it is a cento in tribute to one of my favorite bands…THRICE.

Once, twice, thrice

I’ve stared at the sun, like moths to flame

and tried to make sense of the silhouettes

of papers tigers that stand where idols once stood.

Breathing the fumes of our machines, with broken lungs,

I stand and feel my worth. With my silver wings I am miles above the sea.

It looks deep enough from here, the open water,

I can hear her call my name. I’m diving. The water is poison, filling my lungs.

An overdose of oxygen, “Come on and give me my poison.”

Tonight I’ll make my bed at the bottom of the sea,

breathing through television dreams, oceans of light envelop me.

Promise me that, tomorrow we’ll wake up somewhere new.
